Analysis of the match Gladiators Trenčín vs UHT Sabers
UHT Sabers hockey players started their participation in the European Academic League tournament “Małopolska Winter Cup II” with an unfortunate start.
The Sabers team suffered a 4-6 defeat against Gladiators Trenčín, which left them disappointed. The key moment of this match were simple mistakes in defense and lack of effectiveness in attack, which resulted in the loss of valuable points.
After the first part of the game, the white and blue team were leading 2-0 thanks to goals by Igor Nikolaevich and Maksym Hanuta. Nikolaevich took advantage of the confusion near the goal, while Hanuta confronted goalkeeper Matej Krajči one-on-one, precisely directing the puck into the “fifth hole”.
In the early stages of the second half, Gladiators converted a period of power play into a goal, but just 88 seconds later, Illia Baida calmly took advantage of the one-on-one situation, restoring the Sabers’ two-goal lead. However, before the break, the players of Branislav Jánoš (who was a player of GKS Tychy in the 2012/2013 season) equalized the score. Matúš Trenčan had to acknowledge the exceptional efficiency of Anton Dyukov and Marek Minárik’s shot during the advantage play.
The decisive part of the match turned out to be more favorable for the “Gladiators”, who scored the full pool of points. It is certainly worth considering how the match would have turned out if Jakub Malasiński, Illia Baida and Maksym Hanuta had taken advantage of good opportunities when the score was 4:4. The Sabers experienced first-hand the truth of the hockey adage: “if you don’t score a goal, you’ll lose it”, which coaches often repeat, and which unfortunately was reflected in the team’s play this time.
